Understanding the Transition
As we understand it, there has been a significant shift in branding and functionality. The MFC branding has been replaced, and a physical move has occurred. While this has had limited impact on South African users, who have easily updated to the Konex Cinema APP, the major fallout has been largely on a global scale. International users have been hit the hardest and left without access to the MFC replacement app, called EPPI Cinema. We expect this will change as soon as they "Reboot" themselves.
What to Expect During The Transition
South African Users (Now Konex Cinema)
In South Africa, users have experienced a somewhat seamless transition from My Family Cinema to Konex Cinema with a simple update prompt from within the MFC app. Subscriptions seem to have been largely returned to prior users on the new system. Most users have continued their access without further viewing interruptions or app problems.
International Users (Now EPPI Cinema)
Internationally, however, users have faced a challenging transition from My Family Cinema to EPPI Cinema. The old MFC APP has simply displayed a "Not Available in your Region" notification, leaving users extremely frustrated and annoyed.
We have found an interim "quick fix" using NordVPN, which has helped a number of stranded international users bridge the gap and regain access. Please note that this will only work if you are on the last or most recent version of the MFC app. The steps of the "quick fix" are as follows:
Get NordVPN Here or open the NordVPN app if you already use it.
Log in to NordVPN and navigate to the NordVPN country server list.
Connect NordVPN to a South African server.
Open the MFC app and you should receive a prompt to install the "Konex Cinema" APP.
Install the update and reopen the MFC app (now Konex Cinema) with NordVPN connected.
Once you are logged into Konex, switch off the VPN. You must keep the Konex app open.
Your subscription should return, and you should be able to continue viewing.
Note that you will have to repeat this process each time you open the app to view.
Account Migration
Account migration is a key step for those moving from My Family Cinema to Konex and EPPI Cinema. Users may need to create new accounts, but hopefully, the platforms will import existing watchlists and preferences so that users can continue from where they left off before the changes. This has largely occurred in South Africa, so our assumption is this will roll out across the globe in due course.
